Glenny Wood Development
Glenny Wood is our District’s major physical asset. It is agreed within the District that this site needs to be kept as a traditional campsite.
Whilst use of the site has increased over recent years, particularly within the District, it is hoped to broaden the appeal and use of the site to Groups outside the District by offering the unique facilities that only Glenny Wood can offer as a woodland escarpment site, in easy reach of the motorways.
The aim therefore is to develop the usage of the site for Scouting pursuits and environmental study and to encourage greater use by Groups and Explorer Scouts in the District, elsewhere in the movement, and other youth groups sharing the same philosophy and ideals of Scouting.
Glenny Wood Development Plan
Lots of work has been completed so far and below are many pictures showing what has happened.
This therefore is phase 1 is now completed.
Phase 2 of the programme is further developing the site, increasing the opportunity for young people and further modernisation. With all of this the traditional aspects of camping scouting and the opportunities to "rough" camp, backwoods, play wide games etc is still there to be enjoyed.
